The purpose of Enchanting is to improve items by adding permanent effects to boost your stats, increase damage of weapons or add special abilities. Enchanters do not use normal materials that you can harvest or gather, instead you must disenchant magic items and turn them into ingredients used for your enchantments. Enchanters need Rods to perform their work and those are crafted by Blacksmiths. Due to its nature Enchanting is an expensive profession to have, and you will find that it takes time and effort to reach the high levels. However once you get to a certain point your skills will be much sought after by other players wanting to improve their best gear.

TIP: Enchanting is expensive and has a slow progress, but once you reach higher skill levels you will find that the constant demand for enchantments make a steady and safe income.

A good trick to grind levels in your enchanting skill is to use another profession to create items for disenchanting. There are items from both Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking and Tailoring that can be mass produced without too much effort and then disenchanted. Your best option here is probably Tailoring since the other professions require a gathering profession for materials. Tailoring doesn’t, so by combining Enchanting and Tailoring you can turn cloth dropped from mobs into items valuable for your disenchanting. There is one more thing about Enchanting that makes it different from the rest, and that’s the fact that one of your trainers is inside a dungeon, Uldaman. Luckily he’s not that hard to find, but when you hit enchanting 225, make sure to bring a group with you.

Many high end recipes for enchanting are found via drops from certain mobs or by gaining reputation with various factions, but once you get to the good stuff you should be able to earn some money on your skills. Like Alchemy this profession never runs out of business as the demand for high level enchantments will always be there as long as players keep finding new and better gear and wish to improve it further. Typically an Enchanter will offer his services for a fee depending on the difficulty, and since most ingredients can be bought on the Auction House it is fairly common that the customer buys the materials himself before contacting an enchanter. Some enchanters offer their service including materials at a higher cost. When you are dealing with them, always make sure to know if the price is with or without materials.
